CHANTILLY, Va., March 10, 2011 — The Washington, D.C. Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (WDCSITE) has named this year’s Young Engineer of the Year Award in the memory of former award recipient and Citizant employee Amy Polk. The award was presented on March 3, 2011 to Ybette Ochoa, a transportation planning engineer in HNTB’s Arlington, Va. office.

Amy Polk tragically died on April 29, 2010, as the result of a pedestrian car crash near her office at Citizant in Washington, D.C. Amy actively worked on ITS projects with Citizant for the U.S. Department of Transportation. She was also a community activist who worked to establish the Seasons of Life Women’s Health and Birth Center in her hometown of Takoma Park.

In 2002, Amy received the Young Engineer of the Year Award from WDCSITE, an organization that represents transportation professionals in Northern Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. The honor of this year’s award in Amy’s memory is a reminder of the importance of safety in all that we undertake as transportation professionals.
